I am pregnant. My lmp was 16 th Aug 2016. Today I did an abdominal scan. It shows the report single intra uterine gestation seen in fundus of uterine cavity. Mean sac measures 1.7 cm. To 6 weeks 1 day of GA. Fetal pole, and yolk sac not yet seen. Is this a normal report. Are there chances of pregnancy?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
The following conclusions can be drawn based on the ultrasound report you have furnished.
1. A single intra-uterine gestation seen in the fundus of uterine cavity means that you have conceived.
2. The gestational sac measurements of 1.7 cm corresponds to pregnancy of 6 weeks and 1 day.
3. Fetal pole and yolk sac are not seen at this stage. Its appearance is the first sign of a developing embryo, which normally is seen by 6 weeks of gestation.
Hence, other things appear to be normal, you need to take another scan after a week or ten days to look for fetal pole and appearance of cardiac activity to conclude the pregnancy is viable. Until then, take adequate rest, drink good quantities of fluid and eat healthy diet. Consult your doctor with the report for further evaluation and management.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
